The newest health craze sweeping the nation is beef tallow. Steak n Shake has been advertising that they use beef tallow to fry their fries, allegedly making them healthier than typical fries made with seed oils. There has been a lot of panic about the negative impact of seed oils recently, and beef tallow has been presented as a solution by some "health experts", even though it's high in saturated fat, which is undoubtedly more unhealthy for your cardiovascular health than unsaturated seed oils.

It's a funny moral outrage, insisting that the material used to make incredibly unhealthy food be healthier. Instead of encouraging the general population to eat more fruits and vegetables, the powers that be are insisting that Skittles be made without dye, because that will definitely increase their nutritional value. "Eat more bananas" is way less appealing to the average cable news viewer than "The government has been putting nefarious chemicals in your candy, and that's the reason why you're unhealthy."

A person who really cares about their health probably won't eat French fries regularly. Still, companies have decided that marketing to the slim portion of the population who will go out of their way to avoid seed oils and who regularly eat fast food is a demographic worth catering to.

The dude in this story is one of those business owners who has gotten into the Beef Tallow craze, even naming his restaurant “Tallow." However, this market schtick hasn't helped him much because his restaurant is right by a Raising Cane's and is located inside a supermarket.
